• The Tapas contest is winding down. If you haven´t taken part, use this weekend to try the tapas and to vote for the best one. Be sure to put your voting paper in one of the urns in the various tapas bars. There will be a drawing for a dinner for two at the Fructuosa.

• Saturday at 10:30 a.m.: excursión to the cork forest for an Exhibitión of cork cutting by the gaucineños Francisco Lermos and Matías Rodríguez, and a sharing of drinks and food in the forest before returning to the pueblo.
• Saturday, at 10:30 p.m., the XIV editión of thel Festival Flamenco del Corcho Valle del Genal.

It will be held in the Caseta Municipal, on Friday, 6 August, at 10 p.m. It will not be closed only to Association members, but open to all women in the village that evening. Those who choose can attend in rociera dress, which will enliven the proceedings. Following is the menu: 1) Starters – fritura de pescado and mariscos; 2) melón con jamón; 3) flamenquin casero or brocheta de solomillo con guarnición; 4) dessert – ice cream.
The cost is 18 euros, payable when one confirms attendance. Contacts for the dinner are Feli Carrasco, Celia Moya, Pepa Prieto or Andrea, before 4 August.
Also, raffle tickets are being sold for a crocheted bedspread. The money earned will be used for a trip.

At 10 a.m. next Saturday there will be an excursion to the mountain for an exhibition of cork cutting. The group will leave from the D. Antonio Godino park on the road to Ronda (where the birds are kept.) The demonstration will take approximately 1.50 hours, and the whole excursion will last 5 hours.
Participants are recommended to bring water and food for the hike.
Whoever cannot take part in the hke can leave his car at the “Asalto delo Cura” at 11 a.m. to catch up with the hikers.
D. Julián van der Schaaf will guide the excursion, and the cork workers are Francisco Lermos Salas and Matías Rodríguez Jarillo.

This year, to mark the fiesta of the patron of Gaucin, Our Lady of the Snows, a triduum is being organized. It will take place on 3, 4 and 5th of August (the feast of Our Lady of the Snows.)
Following is the program:
Tuesday, 3 August: 8 p.m. Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, the rosary, the prayers of the Triduum, and Mass
Wednesday, 4 August: 12 noon. Church bells will be rung to anounce the feast on Thursday.
8 p.m. Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, the rosary, the prayers of the Triduum, and Mass.
Thursday, 5 August (Feast of the Virgen de las Nieves): -12 noon, church bells will ring and the angelus recited in the parish church 8 p.m. Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, the rosary, the prayers of the Triduum, and Mass. After Mass we will renew our consecration to the Virgen, and our priest, in the name of all the pueblo, will put flowers on her altar.
Let´s get in the spirit and participate in these acts in honor of our patron, Our Lady of the Snows.

Organized by the Asociación de Iniciativas Turísticas, the contest will continue through next week, ending next Sunday, 1 August.
Participants must try a minimum of 3 tapas in order to vote. All bars have an urn in which to deposit your voting sheet, and voting is open util August 2.
