The Third Gaucin Marathon takes place this coming Sunday, starting at 11:00 a.m.. Due to the altitude of some 640 meters, Gaucín cannot support a complete marathón; a ½ marathón, of 21.097 kms., is more compatible for the athletes. The first two years of the marathon were very successful, and professional and amateur runners from all over the world took part. Winners last year were from Morocco, Kenya and Tanzania. Athletes also came from all over Spain, men and women, old and young. Two years ago, the winner went on to the Olympics.
They start from the Pavillion at the Portichuelo at 11 a.m., and the circuit goes almost to the road of el Peso, on the road to Algeciras. The circuit is over the flattest places in the pueblo and outskirts.
