07/07/2006 Archived Article: "X Festival Flamenco del Corcho is set for the 28 – 29 of July"
Traditionally, this festival, the most important cultural event of the year in Gaucín, is celebrated the weekend before the feria. The festival is organizes by the Town Hall of Gaucín.
The festival begins Friday, the 28th of July, in the Convent, with a conference on “Los Verdiales en el Flamenco.” This is a happy light style of flamenco native to Málaga province. The speaker is D. Alfredo Arrebola, and the Verdiales group, Coto Tres Hermanas, will perform. Singers: Cañeta de Málaga and Jóse Salazar. Guitar: Antonio Soto. Conference begins at 10:30 p.m.
The following night, the 29th of July, the flamenco performance will be held in the “cultural area” (El Portisuelo.) Singers: Arcángel, Marina Heredia, El Pele, Potito and Rubito Hijo. Musicians: M. Angel Cortes, Luis Mariano, Chaparro, Salvador Gutiérrez and Fernando Rodríguez. Presenter: Salvador de la Peña.
