The annual celebration began Sunday, 27 August, with the Romería; the statue of the Santo Niño was carried down from the castle, down the Roman Road to Gibraltar to the chapel at the Adelfilla. The novena began Thursday, 31 August, in the chapel at the castle, and will continue until this Friday.

Next Thursday and Friday the town will be busy with many activities connected with the Santo Niño: 7 September action starts at 8 a.m. with the Municipal Band marching through the streets of the town. At 7 p.m. that same day the image of the Santo Niño will be taken down from the chapel in the castle to the village Church of San Sebastián, where mass will be celebrated, the eighth day of the novena.

At 11 p.m. a party in the Plaza is scheduled to begin, with the orchestra “Natural Orquesta” & the Group “Zambra.”

Friday, 8 September, is the Feast of the Santo Niño. Again, the day will begin at 9 a.m. with the band marching through the street (a “Diana Floreada.”) Mass will be celebrated at 12 noon in the church, the last day of the Novena, followed by music in the Plaza by the group “Latidos.” At 5:30 p.m. there will be a solemn processión starting out from the church to take the images of the Santo Niño & San Juan de Dios through the streets of the town and back up to the castle.

That night, again beginning at 11 p.m., there will be another party in the Plaza featuring the orchestra “Natural” & the group “Yellow.”

Saturday yet another “Verbena” is planned for the plaza, beginning at 11 p.m. and lasting until the wee hours of the morning. No one gets much sleep during Santo Niño weekend.
