According to figures Publisher by the INE (Nacional Institute of Statistics) the over-all population of the province of Málaga gained 37, 878 inhabitants in 2005. This increase of 2.6% between January, 2005, and January, 2006, means that the province has almost 1.5 MM inhabitants, 1,491,287 to be exact. Gaucín gained 36, for a total of 1,878, but the neighbouring villages of Benarrabá and Algatocín lost population: Benarrabá went from 560 to 538, and Algatocín from 951 to 942. Other pueblos of the Serranía de Ronda also lost inhabitants. But the city of Ronda grew from 35,512 in 2005, to 35,836 in January of 2006.
