Teodoro de Molina, mayoral candidate, presented program & exchanged ideas with foreign community of Gaucin
Teodoro, candidate of the PSOE (Partido Socialista de Obrero de España) presented ideas for supporting and preserving the local culture and economy of Gaucin, on Saturday, 27 January, in Restaurant La Fructuosa.
Teodoro was born in Gaucín, but his family left when he was 16 years. He has been a teacher and financial worker with Cajasur. He became involved in politics while working for unions, in non-commercial, social-economy based cooperatives and foundations. After over 20 years he returned to Cajasur and will retire in a year. Several of the articles he has written about Gaucín are posted on his web-site www.gaucin.tv.
His basic concerns for Gaucin are as follows:
Urban planning, with an emphasis on maintaining the aesthetics, legality, & regularizing houses built on public land;
Tourism --- the motor of the village ---all economic activities derive from it. Therefore, services should be of high quality, with schooling and training for workers in the sector, water supply, maintenance & cleanliness.
Environment: the village always has been the crossroads of ‘caminos de herradura’, bridle paths, pathways, and cattle ways, from Gibraltar to Ronda, Seville, and neighbouring villages. These caminos must be kept open to the public.
2010 Celebration: Planning to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the French Occupation.
Politics. The PSOE wants to govern ‘la empresa Gaucín’, if possible with an absolute majority of votes. If not possible, then in coalition with the PP or any party that is open and honest. QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS Youth: concerns were raised about local youth going too far with motorbikes, hassling tourists, damaging cars, even asking for money, drugs, etc. Teodoro: whatever they do, must be within the limits of the law; local police must enforce the law. Youngsters must become involved through schooling, projects and work. Clean energy: If it is economically viable, yes. If it would be more expensive, no, there are no means for that.
Clean water: Would he do something about the water pollution caused by the village and the Poligono Industrial? Teodoro: The sewage plant must be set to work again, which will not solve all of this problem. More local solutions must be sought.
Parking places: Would he make a parking place? Teodoro: There’s no money for that but the Town Hall could facilitate private enterprise by leasing the land, for example near the unfinished sports hall, where they dump the rumble.
Teodoro: It’s my personal opinion that this village is what it now thanks to the foreigners, who revitalized and revalidated it, once the local agricultural economy had collapsed
Register to vote: If you are not registered to vote, you have until Wednesday, 31 January, until 2 pm to do so.
