04/03/2007 Archived Article: "Four processions scheduled for Holy Week (Semana Santa) in Gaucín"
The first is the Stations of the Cross, when the image of Jesus Crucificado is carried through the streets, stopping for the 14 stations of the cross. This procession leaves the church at 10 p.m. on Wednesday. On Holy Thursday, there is mass (Cena del Señor) at 6p.m., and the procession leaves the church at 10 p.m., carrying Padre Jesus and the Virgen Dolorosa. On Good Friday, there are Stations of the cross in the church at noon, and then the Holy Office is read in the church at 4 p.m., followed by a procession with the images of the Santo Entierro (Holy Burial) and the Virgen Dolorosa (Pain-filled). At midnight on Good Friday the last procession leaves from the church, with the Virgen Soledad (Loneliness.) The Municipal Band will accompany one of these processions, but we don´t yet know which one. On the other nights our band will be in processions in neighboring villages. Don´t miss these impressive events in Gaucín.
