08/16/2007 Archived Article: "Résumé of meeting with Teodoro de Molina, Mayor, 9 August 2007"

Joprrian van der Scaaf met with the Mayor and gives this report:

Finances:
* Companies have started to demand the town hall to return 1.7 million Euros that should have been deposited in the bank until a final contract was signed, but have been spent.
* The Town Hall owes firms, shops, builders, etc., up to 1.4 million for 2006. More debts will pop up, probably about 1 million, from 1st of January up to now. The town hall is talking with the province and the junta to see if they can be of help to resolve this situation.

Publicity:
* The Mayor plans to publish a bulletin every 2 months with news, plans, etc.; Jim Warburton has offered to make translations
* In September he'll organize a public meeting to explain the town´s situation and to announce General Norms and rules, such as proper use of bins and deposits, treatment of animals, painting houses, noise levels, etc.

Actual plans:
* a project for 200 houses down below La Herriza can't be stopped anymore.
The former mayor had promised the developer water for free. It might well be there's no water to give, thus no project either.
* 36 affordable houses, 2-bedroom of 65m and 3-bedroom of 80m, ranging form
65 to 80 thousand Euros, where Los Charcones used to be, together with parking for 150 cars (30 for owners) and - if enough space can be created an auditorium for the Banda musica to practice.
* in the longer run a two story parking lot on the other side, next to the Pabellon Municipal
* widening the 'calle de los gitanos' into an accessible street ending in an footpath that connect to the Camino de los piedras del Rio
* talks started with the province to reopen old rights of way; someone already started a procedure against the Camino de Benarabbá being blocked; a meeting will be organized with walkers, Peña de Caballos, Medio Ambiente to see what the situation is like and what a good procedure would be to improve it.

Works in progress:
*10 fines were given to noisy motorbike. The payment of all traffic fines will now be exacted by Hacienda, which removes local influence in quashing the fines. The town is already quieter.
* the Hermandad of the Santo Niño will get their own meeting place/office above the Correos
* an International Folklore Dance Festival will take place in September
* During Santo Niño 3 bands will play, starting from different directions and meeting in the Plaza de Santo Niño for a combined Session.
