21/08/2007 Archived Article: "Fiestas in honour of the Santo Niño start this Sunday"
Sunday, 26 August: Romería of the Santo Niño Diós to the chapel “La Adelfilla” Gaucin:
8.30 a.m.: The image of the Santo Niño is taken in procession to the Plazoleta.
9 a.m.: The Romería (procession thru the countryside) starts down the old Roman Road, the Camino de Gibraltar, to the chapel at the Adelfilla (next to Las Limas)
11 a.m.: Misa (Mass) Romera in the Ermita del Encuentro, officiateda by the parish priest, D. José Morales Melguizo
12 a.m.: The Verbena (country party w/music & food) begins, with “Juan Jesús”
1 p.m.: Free Paella for everyone in attendance
5:30 p.m.: The Romería returns with the Santo Niño to the Castle
31 August until 8 September: Solemn Novena in Honor of the Santo Niño and San Juan de Diós
8 p.m.: In the Chapel at the Castillo, the Novena and holy Mass
Viernes 7 September:
9.30 a.m.: Musical parade through the streets of town by the Banda Municipal “Villa de Gaucín”
6 p.m.: Procession down from the castle with the image of the Santo Niño to the church of San Sebastián, where la holy Mass will be celebrated at the 8th day of the Novena
11 p.m.: Verbena popular in the Plaza with the Orquesta NATURAL and GRUPO CUPULA
Sábado, 8 September:
12 a.m.: Holy Mass in the church
1:30 p.m.: Concentration of marching Bands in the Plaza of the Santo Niño
5:30 p.m.: Solemn Processión of the imáges of the Santo Niño and San Juan de Diós through the streets of town, ending in the Ermita of the Castillo. Once there, the last day of the Novena will be celebrated
11 p.m.: Verbena popular in the Plaza until the wee hours of dawn, with the Orquesta NATURAL and GRUPO CUPULA
