Jesús of La Fructuosa has organized this meeting with the Mayor for 31 October at 19.00 hours. All those who are interested in improving tourism in Gaucín are welcome to bring in and discuss ideas. Jorrian van der Schaaf, after a meeting with the Mayor Teodoro de Molńina, has made the following summary of the state of affairs at the Gaucin Town Hall:
* Teodoro (PSOE) and Paco Ruiz (PP) seem to get on well & are working together in good spirits. * there are some problems with the staff of the town hall; several people on sick leave and there's not enough money to get other/better ones * the idea of a monthly paper for Gaucín to tell what's going on must wait for a lack of money. * the town hall is still negotiating with provincial and andalucian authorities to help Gaucín sort its financial problems; the village is in debt for 1.6 million to firms and individuals and faces an shortfall of yet another 1.6 million, money that should have been deposited in the bank. * the mayor Teodoro de Molina of the PSOE is changing policies from "clientelismo" to equal rules for everyone, so one by one he is producing 'ordenanzas municipales', that is local acts, for example about maintenance of facades, rules on building, animal welfare etc.
Tourism * Teodoro ordered a few old 'caminos' to be cleaned for walking and horse riding, starting with the ones to Casares, Benarraba and Cortes
Urban policies: * a road along the Sierra la Espartina is definitely off the record * a southern round way will be made to connect El Pino via the 'depuradura' (sewage plant) to Calle Arrabalete * the Corchillo, a small side lane of Calle Piedras, is in the process of full renovation, as is the small alleyway connecting the Calle Convento with the Barrio Alto * the first part of the Camino de las Piedras del Rio at the bottom of the Calle Arrabalete will be widened up to the house of Daniel, to become a more accessible promenade at the eastside of the village * 33 apartments are being built opposite the Bodeguita El Chaparro, above the school, next to the swimming pool, by a private company. The level of the houses won't exceed street level, so the Paseo will keep its views * where Los Charcones used to be and the gymnasio, opposite the Municipal Barn, 39 affordable houses will be built with a parking garage for 150 cars and a room for musical activities, f.e. 'Banda musica' and classes. The soil to be excavated will be dropped the other side to enlarge the platform for building yet another parking garage later. * The project for 200 houses near La Herriza might be stopped because of a lack of water supply * The Town Hall does not give any Vados Permanente anymore (private parking places), because it us too elaborative to keep control * The Mercado de Abastos, the covered Market Hall, will probably be turned into a meeting place for conferences with a cafetaria
