23/02/2009 Archived Article: "Association of Tourist Initiatives asks for help"

From a letter by Jesus Balsa Pascual: “The first house martins have arrived and are flying over Portichuelo. This means that we must work as soon as possible on our projects. The Tourist Initiative committee has more work than we can handle so we have decided to ask for help from the members of the Association for specific tasks. We need volunteers for the following:
- 2 people to help Nicolas with the Farmer’s Market in the Plaza Santo Nino on 7th March from 8.30 to 10.00 a.m.
-At least one Person who can make an inventory of the nests in the village. A lot of this has been done and photographed but we need to finish it in order that we might design an ornithological route for the streets of Gaucín.
-Four or more volunteers are needed to help put in place some of the metal plaques which stop the facades underneath the nests from getting dirty and to clean those placed last year. That will be on 21 February and 1st March from 10.00 to 2.00 and it will be necessary to climb up high ladders. Remember that you can also put them up for yourself and they will be supplied by the Association gratis.

These are the most urgent jobs to be done but we also need from everybody for the following:-
-Encourage people to come and sell their products from their vegetable garden or handcrafts, antiques, jewellery, second hand clothes, etc. etc. at the monthly market
-Please pay the annual membership fee for 2009 now so that there will be money in the fund to carry out these jobs which are needed.
-We need new ideas of how and where to find sponsorship.
As it is a difficult year financially for everybody we must all pull together and use our ingenuity and imagination to attract tourists to our area which will help the village generally.
