16/03/2009 Archived Article: "The recreation of the “Taking of the Town Hall” by the French troops will be held March 21 and 22"
Program:
21 March: 12 noon: Greeting and welcoming friends from La Albuela (Badajoz) who will impersonate the French troops in the recreation of the “Taking of the Town Hall” (Convento de Carmelitas)
7 p.m.: Parade of the French troops down the Calle del Convento, to the door of the Town Hall of Gaucín, where they will conquer said Town Hall.
--- Once the Town Hall has been taken, the French troops will go on to occupy look-out and guard positions in various municipal buildings: El Convento, main doors of the Castle of the Eagle, door to the cemetery, etc.
---All citizens of Gaucín are requested (urged) to dress in garb of the era. People working in restaurants and bars are especially asked to be in costume.
22 March: 11 a.m.: Reception and Greetings of the friends from Ronda and Benamahoma (Cádiz) who will take the roles of the mountain warriors in the recreation of the “Toma” (Pabellón Municipal)
12 noon: Parade of the mountain warriors down calle “Los Bancos” to the Town Hall where they will fight the French troops for the Town Hall of Gaucín.
12:45 p.m.: Once the Town Hall has been taken, the mountain warriors will go on to recuperate and expel French troops in the buildings which had been captured the day before. Once the Castle of the Eagle has been taken back, one of the mountain warriors will climb the tower, take down the French flag, and raise the Spanish flag.
2 p.m.: Lunch for all who have taken part, gratis, in the Pabellón Municipal, 4 p.m.: Farewell to the the mountain warriors and the French troops.
