The project has been inspired by the famous Swiss artistic project, designed to lure people back into the center of Zurich. They created hundreds of life-sized poliéster cows which were decorated and transformed by artists and placed around the city center. This had a tremendous success, and many cities of the world copied the idea.
We want to do something similar in Gaucín, but with an animal that we see everyday in our streets and gardens. 400 geckos with be distributed to artists and children of Gaucin --- to anyone who wishes to participate, to paint and decorate them. They will then be installed on various facades of Gaucin for 2 months, to beautify our streets and attract tourism.

There were 17 stands, which sold plants, homemade baskets (see foto), organic products, homemade breads and pastries, home grown honey, etc. From 10 a.m. many people took advantage of the market that was held in the Plaza of the Santo Niño. The atmosphere was lively, and the success so apparent that many people have reserved places for more stands at the next market. The idea of the Asociación de Iniciativas Turísticas is to offer gaucineños the opportunity to sell their home grown and home made products, especially those from local gardens and orchards, and also, for the market to be a meeting place for the locals. Sunday, 11 May: at 8 p.m. in the Convento. That Sunday there is mass and procession in Estación de Gaucín at noon.

Saturday, 17 May: First Comunions at 12 noon in the Convento. The next day, Sunday, there will be a procession in Salitre at noon.

Sunday, 25 May: Corpus Cristo. Mass at 11 a.m. in the Convento; Processión afterwards por la C/Convento, Esquina Matías, Barrio Alto.

Beginning in June, mass will be at 8 p.m. in the Convento, until Santo Niño in September.

The sale will be held at the entrance to the village C/Convento, 130, opposite the convent. On offer will be nearly new cleaned clothes, bags, shoes, silver jewelry, etc.

The market will be located in the square of the Santo Niño, Calle Toledillo, and surrounding streets, and will take place on the first Saturday of each month, starting Saturday, May 3.

Initially the market will focus on seasonal fresh local products, following the natural cycle of orchards and vegetable gardens. It will be open to everyone wanting to sell not only food, but crafts and any other product suitable for a market of quality.

The market will begin at 10 a.m. and end at 4 p.m. Traffic will be cut off during that time in the affected streets.

At mass on 4 May, a group of singers from England will sing the Mass for 8 voices by Tomas Luis de Victoria, and some polyphonic renaissance motets. Mass is in the Convento at noon.
